We are taught from an early age that cheating is wrong - that is true, but we are also taught that people care about grades a lot more. This is what I believe leads to the mentality that people have to cheat, because even in first grade parents and teachers seem proud of you when you get an A. In comparison, the pressure to excel and get good grades in high school is immense because every student wants to get do well to get accepted into the college of their choice. I do not believe that people cheat because they can, I think they only do it because they have choice. The only other thing I would like to say about it is that even if someone saw another student cheating, that they would not report it because you do not report your friends, and just like other schools BCHS is a tight knit community which makes it harder for teachers to recognize cheating.
I believe that there are people in every high school that believe they can get away with cheating. I think that people cheat because sometimes they may not be able to understand what they are being taught, as well as the fact that many students may not have the actual time to study because of other activities or work and surprise quizzes and tests they had weeks to study for get lost in the background.
The only thing I think that teachers can do to reduce the level of cheating is to keep a better eye out, and watch their students when they are taking exams, and maybe give them more time to study beforehand. Other then that, however, teachers are not the ones that have to change; it is the students who need to stop and realize that when they cheat, they are only cheating themselves. =]
